On the contrary, Yanna saw something completely different in me. She explained to me that the music sheets are just like a street directory. Some can read it very well, and others cannot despite how much they have tried. Nevertheless, the ultimate aim that we all want to achieve is to get from A to Z, and once you have learned the landmarks and the way, you can get there effortlessly and sometimes without paying much attention or strangely enough, sometimes some of us arrive at our destination safely with a real scary thought of how we did actually get there.
Her constant encouragement, patience and perseverance have helped to shape my belief in myself, to realise my potentials and dreams, and hence to connect slowly with the music reading, to freely and emotionally interpret the music and to passionately express it through my learning. Just less than two years, to my surprise, I have learned from scratch and am now able to play a few considerably challenging famous pieces such as Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata Movement 1 by Beethoven, Nocturne in C-sharp minor and Fantaisie Impromptu Op.66 by Chopin. Believe me, it is an absolute pleasure to play those pieces! Sometimes, I got up half way through the night and could not help from indulging myself into playing them!
To me, Yanna’s teaching techniques of imparting her knowledge and skills possess a strong focus on fostering the individual’s strengths and aspirations instead of molding them into the conventional way of learning to play. For adult learners, Yanna’s application of Adult Learning Principles is reflected in her understanding and respect for the individual’s uniqueness and differences which brings the piano learning experience with her to a complete different level. Her relaxing and easy going persona coupled with a positive and can-do attitude are refreshingly infectious. She makes music lessons very enjoyable, fun and yet quite productive. With Yanna, she has shown that nothing is impossible when it comes to learning piano.
So, if I can do it, you can too… Just make sure you give it a go and be patient with it!
I love y lessons with Yanna. She has shown me how to develop a solid technique and play stylistically. I hadn’t played for 45 years when I started with Yanna. To be honest, I had never given technique much attention all those years ago. Having a systematic approach to developing a good technique really unlocks some wonderful repertoire that I never thought I would play. A huge thanks to Yanna for so patiently guiding and encouraging me!
Yanna without a doubt is the most remarkable piano teacher one will encounter. Not only she is extremely talented musician and pianist, her piano teaching method is effective and efficient indeed. I was surprised myself that I have progressed so significantly in less than a year. Now I am able to master challenging pieces by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Mozart. It’s definitely a joy and satisfaction to play those pieces, and in some occasions, we even played on a varieties of grand pianos that available at the piano warehouse. This has further built up my confidence in public playing and also widening my knowledge in handling different pianos.
Yanna is also highly experienced in adult piano teaching, which can be seen in the results of her students. I have personally met some of her adult students and headed them play. They all played beautifully and with passion. Many of them started from scratch with no prior experience, and in a short few years achieved such high standards.
All thanks to Yanna, her positive, inspiring and encouraging teaching style that always made my piano learning journey very enjoyable experience. I feel so fortunate to have her as my teacher.

Despite the fact that I’m relatively new to the instrument and could barely read music, Yanna has been the most brilliant teacher. Obviously I am still a beginner, but she is an extremely talented teacher and her lessons would be suitable for any experience level, from beginner to advanced. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy learning piano, as it is quite difficult, especially for someone who is nearly thirty with no musical background, but regular lessons with Yanna have made me completely fall in love with it. I now have a digital keyboard in my home (that Yanna helped me to source) to practice on, so she frequently plays the pieces I’m learning on video so that I can practice more efficiently. Yanna is also a kind and lovely person, so the lessons are always enjoyable and she is always willing to work with me to find a time that suits my schedule.
She has helped me go from a beginner who was unsure, to someone who loves piano and will continue until I am proficient (or hopefully, one day, advanced). I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning or improving his or her piano skills.
